Zoo Breaks All-Time Record for Attendance

ABILENE, TEXAS – Abilene Zoo officials today announced that 224,805 visitors attended the zoo in 2013, an all-time record for attendance. Attendance in 2013 beat 2012 by over 7,000 visitors. “Our dedicated zoo staff has worked hard to make our zoo a memorable experience for our visitors,” said Bill Gersonde, Zoo Director. “We are delighted with the Big Country’s response.” When asked to what he attributed the increase in attendance, Mr. Gersonde noted, “The opening of the Caribbean Cove exhibit as well as the black-footed ferret exhibit were major factors, but the overall improvement in the guest experience played a big part, too.” The Abilene Zoo is recognized as Abilene’s #1 attraction. {{more}} About the Abilene Zoo:The Abilene Zoo is home to over 900 animals from 250 species. The Zoo offers many educational programs and kid’s activities, including camps, education classes, birthday parties and Behind the Scenes Tours. The Abilene Zoo is open 7 days a week, come rain or shine, from 9 am until 5 pm, except for Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day.
