Youth of the Year Dinner to be held at MCM Elegante tonight!

Original art work from the Boys & Girls Club of Abilene to be auctioned!ABILENE, TEXAS – The Boys & Girls Club of Abilene and the Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union will be hosting their Youth of the Year Dinner tonight at the MCM Elegante. This annual event is designed to honor an outstanding youth from each of the four club locations and Teen Night and sponsored by the Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union, a long time supporter of the Boys & Girls Club and children in the Abilene area.“Youth of the Year winners are not just chosen,” said Mark Young, Chief Professional Officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Abilene. “These kids have to write essays, gather letters of support, present a speech in front of judges and go through a rigorous interview process. After the speech and interviews, the judges read all of the information from the application, essays, and letters and then grade, rank, and submit them back to the committee. The winner is announced and sent on to compete at the West Texas Area Council competition and if they win there, go on to compete in Austin.” {{more}}This year winners will give their speeches at the Youth of the Year dinner tonight. Their speeches address the challenges they have had to face in life, why the Club made a difference, and what goals they have set for themselves as they utilize the skills learned at the Club.Dashia Layman and Marcus Malcolm Wilson will be our two winners who will speak. Dashia represented us in San Angelo and then in Austin.Entertainment is provided by Club members from each Club and will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. The Youth of the Year Dinner will also bring back the popular art auction. Original works of art by the Club members are matted by Surroundings and displayed at the dinner.
