West Texas Book and Music Festival
By Floyd Miller
The 8th annual West Texas Book & Music Festival, sponsored by the Friends of the Abilene Public Library, is nearly upon us. The expanded Festival will be September 22-27 in downtown Abilene, at various locations, but primarily at either the Abilene Public Library or the Abilene Civic Center. A new program this year will be the West Texas Poetry Fest on Monday the 22nd at noon at the library. This is a brown bag lunch-open mic event for all local poets to come and share their work. Our Authors in Schools program has also changed a bit. . . rather than concentrate on one day of visits, local authors will be visiting in Abilene schools every day during the Festival week. Complete, continually updated information is available on our website, www.abilenetx.com/apl by clicking on the Festival logo on the right side of the page. For print outlets, I have pictures from the various Festival events last year if you would like to consider them to run with any story you might be able to print. I would be happy to send them to you if you like. Thanks for helping us publicize this event that honors creativity in both the written and sung word. If you need any more information, or wish to set up any interviews with our featured authors or musicians, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
