Make plans to attend the U.S. Travel Rally Day on May 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the plaza of the Abilene Civic Center. The public is invited to attend and help celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week. U.S. Travel Rally Day is a concerted effort to demonstrate the impact that the tourism industry has on the local economy, as well as on area businesses and its employees. In addition, the goal of the rally is to unite the community’s tourism employees and supporters and publicly represent the industry to residents, elected officials and the media. The rally and social media efforts will carry the message that “Travel Matters” – not only to our nation and state, but to our community as well. {{more}}At the rally, industry employees will represent Abilene’s diverse tourism partners – from conventions and culinary, to attractions and retail. The local tourism industry generates $330 million, creates and supports 3,460 jobs and puts $5.9 million in tax revenue into the city coffers. On May 10, it will be evident that tourism benefits everyone. Anyone attending the rally on May 10 will receive a special button valid for complimentary admission to area attractions through Sunday, May 15.
