There are three main areas of focus at the YMCA of Abilene; youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. All three play a vital role in the YMCA’s vision and daily focus. This month’s focus is Healthy Living. The actual definition of Healthy Living, according to the World Health Organization , is “the steps, actions and strategies one puts in place to achieve optimum health”. Healthy Living is about taking responsibility and making smart health choices for today and for the future. Eating right, getting physically fit, emotional wellness, spiritual wellness and prevention are all apart of creating a healthy lifestyle. Since the entire YOU must work in harmony to achieve wellness, you need to put balanced energy into each aspect of yourself. The YMCA emphasizes Healthy Living and provides the tools, guidance, and motivation to help take those steps towards Healthy Living not only for you, the individual, but for the entire family. The YMCA has classes such as Zumba, Boot Camps, Aqua Zumba, Yoga, and Hip Hop that uses unique styles and a fun atmosphere to produce results. KidzFit and the Youth Fitness Orientation is for kids that provides them knowledge of the equipment and nutritional advice to help them take steps towards healthier living.
