Tax Deadline approaches – No Foolin’!
It’s no April foolishness . . .exactly two weeks remain to get your federal income taxes done and filed, and your Abilene Public library can help you get it done! APL continues to host free Tax-Aide assistance every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon from 1 until 5 in the upstairs auditorium. The assistance program lasts through this year’s filing deadline, Wednesday, April 15th. The Tax Aide volunteers from the American Association of Retired Persons will be on hand to help you figure out which tax form is right for you and how to fill it out. They will file your taxes electronically, unless the IRS requires a paper filing. And if you don’t normally file, but wish to do so this year to get the federal stimulus rebate, they can help there also. You’ll want to bring copies of last year’s federal tax returns, all materials pertaining to this year’s taxes and Social Security cards for every family member included in the return. The assistance will be on a first-come, first-served basis, and volunteers may not be held responsible for any tax errors.
