State Rep. Ana-Maria Ramos Statement on Her Support of Food Service Workers and Organizers in HD 102
By Representative Ana-Maria Ramos

04/18/2019 Richardson, TX – State
Representative Ana-Maria Ramos of House District 102 expressed her support
today for the campus food workers at the University of Texas at Dallas as they
face the opportunity to unionize:
“The food service workers at UTD deserve the chance to vote whether or not
to be represented by a union. I know these workers and organizers have fought
for almost a year to get to this point. I couldn’t be prouder of their efforts,
and for their willingness to speak up for their constitutional rights. It is
imperative we support the right for all Texans, particularly our working class
families, to collectively bargain for a better quality of life.”
The campus workers, who reported difficulties when trying to discuss
unionization, were helped by dedicated union organizers. If the workers elect
to unionize, they will work together with the United Food and Commercial
Workers Union Local 1000 to negotiate a contract to improve wages, guarantee
seniority and recall rights, address uniform and parking costs, and stop
favoritism and harassment.
The campus food workers — who are employed by the Compass Group – Chartwells
Food Service — will vote whether to be represented by the UFCW Local 1000 on
May 2nd.
