Spring Break @ your Library
Spring Break is almost here, and each location of your Abilene Public Library has great programs for all ages to enjoy while school is out. You can bring your kids to either the Main Library or the South Branch at 3 p.m. each day for a special family storytime just for them. These storytimes help kids re-discover the joy in reading just for fun! Parents will enjoy spending time with their children, perhaps introducing them to favorite books from their own childhood. On Monday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m., head to the Mockingbird Branch for “Crazy Hair Night!” Dare to wear your craziest hair & win a prize. There will be zany hair activities and crazy hair books during this fun, free storytime event for the entire family. Tuesday, March 10 from 2-4 p.m., enjoy “Bored Games” at Mockingbird Branch, strictly unplugged. A variety of family-style, old fashioned board games will be provided for all ages and participants are encouraged to bring their favorite game to share with others. Enter our Scrabble™ tournament and perhaps you’ll take home the trophy! Refreshments provided at this free program. Also on Tuesday, March 10 from 6:30 until 8, test your skills during “Teen Tech Week @ your Library: Press Play! Guitar Hero® Tournament” at the Main Library Auditorium. Teen Tech Week is about connecting teens with different technologies, especially those that are available @ your Library. Thanks to the Friends of the Library, we now have a Wii® gaming system, so here’s your chance to take advantage of this generous gift and enter our Guitar Hero tournament. 3 categories: easy, medium, and hard, with prizes in each category. A sign-up sheet will be available through Monday, March 10. Call 676-6067 to register. On Wednesday, March 11 from 2 -4, hone your reading skills at the Mockingbird Branch during “Read to a Dog Day.” Kids will get a chance to read to someone who will love every single minute of it, and will never criticize or correct! Time to show off your dance grooves on Thursday, March 12 from 1-3 during the “Dance, Dance Challenge” at the Mockingbird Branch. At this Wii® event for ages 13 – 19, we ask that you register because we only have so much room! Bring your socks and find out who’s got the best moves around. Free. The Main library is located downtown at 202 Cedar, the South Branch is located at 1401 S. Danville and the Mockingbird Branch is located at 1214 N. Mockingbird.
