Southwest Drive Community United Methodist Church

Southwest Drive UMC and Plum St UMC were joined to form Southwest Drive Community United Methodist Church in a gathering of community and worship. The joining brought not only Methodists together but many of the community of faith in Abilene and surrounding communities. The main speaker was originally Methodist but came to find his home of faith as a Baptist minister. He certainly woke up many of those attending and even surprised those of the church he now ministers with the Abilene version of getting down and rising up in faith. {{more}} Performances by many of the choirs of Abilene’s different faiths showed all that our faiths are not so different but can stir all to a better life. The Methodist District Superintendent surprised all by stating he was “just the parsley”. He did not give a long or short message – he simply called Reverend Iziar Lankford forth to answer the simple questions that formally created the new church and congregation. Like parsley on steak, you don’t really miss it until you bite into the meal.Dr. Kelvin Kelley was the Keynote Speaker at the dedication ceremony.
