Date of Funeral:

Shayla Monique Penns, 21, died Saturday, August 19, 2006, at a Dallas hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at King Soloman Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by {{more}} Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Shayla was born February 5, 1985 in Abilene, Texas to Reverend Andrew L. and Mary Helen Penns. She attended Cooper High School and continued working toward getting her G.E.D. She was a faithful member of Valley View Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her father, Pastor Andrew L. Penns. She worked in the Youth Department, served as a member of the choir, and worked on the Youth Usher Board. She was an active member of the original West Texas Baptist District Association. She was the mother of a beautiful son that she loved dearly. Shayla loved children and touched the lives of many young people.Shayla is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Rev. Alex W. Penns, Sr. and maternal grandmother and grandfather, Walter Frank and Doris Webber.She leaves behind her son, Christopher D. Penns; grandmother, Mrs. Erma M. Penns; mother, Mary Helen Penns; father, Rev. Andrew L. Penns; three brothers, Jackie R., Terrence B., and Chris A; two sisters, Jacqueline L. and Andrea D.; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.Memorials in Shayla’s memory may be made to Valley View Missionary Baptist Church Education Fund, 3564 Clinton St., Abilene, TX 79603.
