Racial Profiling

By Stan Standridge - Chief of Police

Pursuant to Code of Criminal Procedure 2.132, the Department has apolicy that prohibits racial profiling. Racialprofiling is defined as a law enforcement initiated action based on anindividual’s race, ethnicity or national origin rather than on the individual’sbehavior or on information identifying the individual as having engaged incriminal activity. Our policy stipulates that sworn peace officers and non-swornpersonnel are strictly prohibited from engaging in bias based profiling orracial profiling in traffic contacts, field contacts, asset seizure andforfeiture, arrests or any other law enforcement effort. Additionally, anyperson who believes a peace officer employed by the Department has engaged inracial profiling or bias based profiling, with respect to that person, may filea complaint with the Department and no person shall be discouraged, intimidatedor coerced from filing such a complaint or be discriminated against becausethey have filed such a complaint. {{more}} Police Administration takes these matters very seriously. Racialprofiling is strictly prohibited. I have no comment concerning the matters in Florida . I do not haveall of the facts.TheAbilene Police Department is dedicated to working together to build a communityof the highest quality for present and future generations. A cornerstone ofthat promise is to provide quality investigations regarding solvable crimes. Weare committed to our community, and we must have the public’s trust to beproductive.
