Pop-up book CREATIONS on Display at the Museum of TTU

LUBBOCK, TX—The Museum of Texas Tech University is pleased to announce the showing of the traveling exhibition Wizards of Pop! Sabuda & Reinhart, opening April 15 in Gallery 2, and continuing through June 30. The Museum is located at 4th Street and Indiana Avenue, where parking and admission are free.{{more}}Celebrated children’s books creators Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart are the best-known pop-up book artists working today. Sabuda, originally from Pinckney, MI, and Reinhart, originally from Cedar Rapids, IA, work in a shared studio in New York, where they have created a series of hand-crafted pop-up books that are both intriguing and breathtaking at the turn of every page.Wizards of Pop! Sabuda & Reinhart includes more than 80 images from 16 picture and pop-up books. The book art shows a variety of media and techniques, with artworks in batik, marbleized paper mosaic, and delicate cut-paper, and pop-up books rendered in pencil, marker, watercolor, acrylic, and linoleum block print. Also, the exhibition features exciting two-dimensional artworks from books such as Saint Valentine, The Blizzard’s Robe, and The Paper Dragon, and innovative 3-D pages from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the Encyclopedia Prehistorica series, Young Naturalist’s Pop-Up Handbook: Beetles and Butterflies, Cinderella, and STAR WARS: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxies, among others.This exhibition is organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, Abilene, TX, and is locally supported by the Helen Jones Foundation and the Museum of Texas Tech University Association.To request special assistance, contact the Museum Education office at museum.education@ttu.edu, or call 742-2432.Stay up to date with MoTTU exhibitions and events at www.museum.ttu.edu.“There’s something for everyone at the Museum.”
