Pastor Andrew Penns, installed as Moderator at Original West Texas Baptist District Association
By Floyd Miller
The Original West Texas Baptist District Association was held at the Abilene Convention Center from June 24th to June 28th, 2019. Area churches visiting the event were The New Fellowship Baptist Church, Pastor James W. Webb, Mount Zion First Baptist Church, Pastor Demotis Sherman, Jr., and Valley View Baptist Church, Pastor Andrew L. Penns.
Sister Payne, the Youth Director at Valley View Missionary Baptist Church said this was her first year of holding the position of Assistant Youth Director in the OWT. However, she does it because she loves working with children as she strives daily to reach children so that they can reach other children with gospel of Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Florene Alexander has been participating in the OWT Conventions for 48 year said that her faith and learning about the different aspects of God’s care and plans for His people gives her something to take back to other churches and share what she has learned.
Sister Rose House said that Mrs. Florene Alexander invited her 8 years ago and she has been participating ever since, because she loves every minute of it.
The annual meeting of the OWT Baptist District Association and the Congress of Christian Education met in Abilene this year.
Andrew Penns, pastor of Abilene’s Valley View Missionary Baptist Church, is the incoming moderator of the organization, which is in its 116 year. The congress, which operates under the umbrella of the association, is 105 years old. Penns has a long association with both organizations but this is his first time in leading them.
