Original West Texas Baptist District Association Conference
By Joe Starkey
President James Collins discussed the conference with me starting with the information that they were the oldest conference in Texas founded 96 years ago. They were holding classes 8-12 June in Doctrine, Stewardship and Youth Christian Morals. The basic goal of the conference was to meet the “need to move back towards Christian Doctrine. Eighteen churches and 21 pastors and ministers were represented from churches ranging from El Paso to Dallas and Wichita Falls. The conference had enthusiastically met their goals in attendance, money and spiritual areas. The main achievement of the conference was certifying teachers who could return to their churches, both willing and certified to teach. The Dean of the Conference, Mrs. Amy Jones McNeil felt it was the “spirit of God reaching out to those who are not sure in their belief.”
