New Horizons – Providing Care For Abused Children For Forty Years

Beforeshe was 2 years old, her dad tried to kill her. A few years later, her stepfatherstarted sexually abusing her. Later, she ended up living with her mother in adrug house with minimal hope and many hurts left in her heart.   Whenshe was six years old, Donna was removed from her home and abusive situation.Like many abused children, she had seen more and had more terrible things doneto her than most people experience in a lifetime.  When she was placed at New Horizons, she wasangry and ready to fight anyone who happened to be near. However, the staff ofNew Horizons demonstrated a love that she had never known before. They caredfor her, built a healthy relationship with her, and taught her how to trustpeople. They taught her that she was genuinely special and could have a futurethat was bright.  {{more}}   That’swhy, when she grew up and became a nurse, Donna decided to come back to NewHorizons to work with children just like she was. Today, Donna says, “I cantruthfully say New Horizons saved my life and my sanity.”   Since1971, New Horizons has been providing specialized treatment and care forchildren who have been victims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse. NewHorizons has two residential treatment facilities for children in Abilene andnear Brownwood, Texas. The organization also provides foster care’66 Black Chevy Impala.
