Washington, DC- Congressman Neugebauer issued the following statement after learning President Barack Obama signed an executive order ending the Mexico City policy, a ban on federal funds for international groups that perform abortions.“Year after year, Congress has continued to extend President Reagan’s Mexico {{more}} City policy as a way to establish a distinct line between funding for family planning activities and abortion. Today’s action by President Obama reverses policy a majority in Congress have supported and sends the wrong message to the world about the United States’ position on abortion. “I believe the United States has a responsibility to respect the laws of countries that prohibit or restrict abortion. We must ensure our government policies respect life both at home and abroad as the thousands of participants in yesterday’s national March for Life from around the country asked President Obama and Congress to do. I urge President Obama to reconsider his decision and work with Congress to ensure American taxpayers’ money is not being used overseas to fund abortion providers.”
