Miracle March Wedding Ceremony Brings Couple Together;

Letting Go of the Past of Drugs to Letting GodBy Frances Gonzalez-Boyd Tomorrow is not promised to any of us, and if we are visited by Cupid it might not come again. When a couple has an encounter with true love, it might be best to flow with the feelings, so not to delay a possible beautiful future with one another. Sometimes it would probably better not to put off the wedding ceremony when true love is shared by two people. Taking a different path might not always work. Mike Gomez, 42, and Vicki Leber, 39 exchanged wedding vows on March 12 at College View Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Roy who officiated. Both have children from past marriages. Mike has two daughters and a son, Victoria, 22 Abigail, 11, and Lane Michael, 10. Vicki has two sons, John, 22 and Jeron, 20. The wedding was a miracle ceremony because {{more}} it brought the couple together as one, and also reunited Mike’s family after fifteen years. Vicki’s father gave her away in marriage, after Mike asked more him for his hand in marriage to his daughter, the old fashioned way. Mike and Vicki’s story is a rare and unique story. It is about letting go and letting God. About a haunting past with drugs and the damage it can cause that can lead to consequences like time behind bars and also a painful family separation. Both have been married before and the couple shared that this time it is for real because God had his hand in it. Mike said that it was the third time at marriage, and it is a charm. “Joyce Meyers says, that God puts a person in your life at times that is the opposite to balance one another,” said Vicki. “I wasn’t looking a relationship. Years ago I would have married again. I did not want a relationship. The couple met at a Denny’s in Abilene while Mike was out eating dinner one night. “Denny’s is one of my favorite places to eat. I came in one day and this beautiful blonde hair girl was so polite and she took my order. I ordered a full meal that comes with a drink. I didn’t know that. I noticed there was no charge for a drink. I thought she did not charge me. I was literally smitten.” said Mike.“A couple of nights later, another waitress said that he wanted my phone number. I do not remember. ” Vicki said. The couple has both been to drug rehab recovery for their addictions which led them to repentance and to accept Jesus Christ. It has not always been easy during the time they have known each other. They had both had past experiences before they met. We both have made mistakes in life, but they were different. I have been a Roofing Contractor for 15 years. I had also been an addict of methamphetamines and had been to rehab treatment at Serenity for the first time in 2001 and I was slipping. I have always known about God. The second time when I went to treatment, I left it there. I gave it to God. I had to win. I prayed for God to put the past of drugs behind me.” Mike said.According to Mike, his second time in rehab was in Lubbock in managed care on February 2012. “It was hardcore and no fluffiness with the scientific approach. They show you how your brain blocks the sensors once it wears off.” He said. “If you are going to do drugs, you are not going to be with the Lord. He has shown me many examples. He wants me to spend the next forty years of my life serving him alongside my wife and serving her.” Mike said. “If you go to church, she will follow. Serve the Lord in his way and fashion, and she will follow. The only way to become a Christian man and a good husband is to be around good Christian men. Your mother and your wife cannot teach you how to be a good leader. A woman cannot learn how to be a good Christian woman; she has to learn from other Christian women.”Mike and Vicki’s love grew stronger and they became closer instead of apart after having been separated a couple of times. Mike went to work with his company to Colorado. This was a little bit after they started dating. They kept in touch and were really missing each other. He shared that after his company truck transmission broke down, his boss sent home on a bus, but he regrets going after losing his hard earned money that he could have spent on Vicki When they were separated another time after having a fight and disagreement, she moved out of town to work, and decided not to have contact with Mike, and blocked his phone number. She would come into Abilene a few times. They both have come a long ways from the trama that led to Mike totally loosing one of his legs. The couple also has been to drug rehab recovery, and have been clean from their addiction that led them to repentance and to Jesus Christ. It has not always been easy. Many people have been known to turn to God by trial and error. This could work for the couple since they had to learn through mistakes in order to find real happiness. Mike and Vicki were going through a transformation to better their life when they met, and they both had been introduced to Jesus Christ. Their life experiences were not all a bed of roses. Not knowing what their destiny looked like ahead, Mike and Vicki experienced the worst as their love was budded, and before exchanging the wedding vows; “for better or for worst, till death do us part.” Before becoming a roofer, Mike rode bulls for a living. At seventeen, he was out of his parent’s house, and into methamphetamines. One day he was terribly hurt by a bull that bucked him off, and caused him to get a punctured lung, and it fractured two ribs. He claimed that even though the bull riding end back then, taking “dope” did not. This was his first of two injuries. The first was when he was still into drugs, and the second time was while he has been in the roofing business and had already been to treatment, and had also accepted Jesus in his life.Mike is a Project Manager Salesman of his own roofing business for many years. His business has kept him going, and it has not always been booming. It was because of his business caused Mike to one day loose one of his legs in a freak accident leaving him with a long excruciating time of enduring agony and pain. According to Mike, he explained how the accident that took his leg and how it changed the rest of his life. While helping a co-worker learn how to drive an old pick-up with a stick shift, and not the usual one he used, he accidently drove into him while he was standing on one side near a fence.He and Vicki were apart at the time, and were not communicating. She received a call from Mike’s boss to share the bad news about his accident. She had already unblocked his number and was about to call him when she received the call about his leg. Since then he has had numerous amount of surgeries and walks with a cane. There was a lot more to this story while he was under doctor’s care in the ICU.When Vicki went to see him at the hospital, she knew she was where she was supposed to be. “He was meant from the beginning. I saw him laying there so vulnerable. He has been like an ego manic at times, but when he was laying there in the hospital, my heart was filled with compassion for him.” Vicki said.“She truly loves me, and has never left my sight through all the surgeries. When I was not coherent, she knew what was going on. She took time out of her life to help me get back to health.” said Mike. “You have to find the right one. I do believe that God does it on his time. He does it on his own timeframe. The person may not be what you envisioned, but first if you trust in God and worship together and lit him into the relationship, he will mold you both. The closer you are to God together, the better you are also together.” Today, their house has a deck that was built just for Mike. After the accident both Mike and Vicki are very thankful for all the Christian people and friends that have been there for them. One of Mike’s friends has also been having bible study at their house. Mike has also trained Vicki to work alongside him as his partner in the roofing business. As for his partner for life, they have come a long way from courting each other and their past and deserve true happiness.
