McMurry University’s Tipi Village Celebrates 60th Anniversary at Homecoming 2011 on Oct. 6-9

ABILENE, Texas – Several thousand Abilene and area students and families are expected to visit Tipi Village on the McMurry University campus Friday, Oct. 7, as the men’s and women’s social clubs erect authentic Native American dwellings and tell visitors about the history and culture of different tribes. Tipi Village tours will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.{{more}}Native American judges will check all the tipis for authenticity at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the winners being announced at halftime of the McMurry-Sul Ross State football game on Saturday, October 8. McMurry University men’s and women’s social clubs will represent the following Naïve American tribes at Tipi Village:• AYA: Nez Perce• DBE: Kiowa• Gamma Sigma: Southern Cheyenne• Pi Phi: Mescalero Apache• Theta Chi: Blackfoot• T.I.P.: Pentatuka• HEI: Comanche• Kiva: Kaw• KoSari: Sioux• Makona: Northern Cheyenne• XO: Caddo or Wichita
