McMurry University Trumpet Ensemble Earns National Recognition;

By Gary Ellison Associate Director University Relations

ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University Trumpet Ensemble has advanced to the semifinals of the 2010 National Trumpet Competition and will travel to Washington, D.C. to compete at the next level in March. The ensemble is directed by Dr. Mark Wilcox, Assistant Professor of High Brass and Music Theory at McMurry.” The group accomplished this in direct competition with schools of any size, said Dr. Chris Neal, McMurry’s Director of Bands. Other schools selected for the competition include The Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, the Julliard School and many other prestigious programs. “The athletic equivalent would be our basketball team making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament competing against the likes of Duke, North Carolina and Kansas,” said Dr. Neal. “They have worked very hard to achieve this national recognition and will represent McMurry quite well in Washington, D.C.” The ensemble includes students Kira Good, senior music major from Merkel; Martin Rodriguez, junior music major from Abilene Wylie High School; Keith Lightfoot, freshman music major from Waco Midway; and Lance Mosley, freshman music major from Abilene High School.
