McMurry University Education Senior Meagan Ake named EDICUT Student of the Year for 2012

Abilene Texas -Abilene Texas – McMurry University Educationmajor Meagan Ake is the recipient of the Education Deans of IndependentColleges and Universities in Texas award for the 2011-2012 schoolyears. The award is given annually to an outstanding student in the McMurrySchool of Education. EDICUT presents the annual award to selected students whoexhibit excellence in leadership on the campus and in the community. Her award waspresented by the State President of EDICUT, Dr. Perry K. Haley Brown, who isthe Dean of the McMurry School of Education. The reception was held on Monday,Feb. 13, in the Furr Welcome Center on the McMurry Campus. {{more}} Ms. Ake is the currentPresident of Kappa Delta Pi and is also President of the McMurry Chapter of theAssociation of Texas Professional Educators. She served as Vice-President ofAlpha Chi National Honor Society at McMurry. She has volunteered at theAldersgate Mother’s Day Out and has worked at the HEB Day of Sharing. She alsoparticipated in several community service events through her leadership in ATPE.She is currently doing her student teaching in the Wylie Independent SchoolDistrict.
