Mayor Archibald to recognize local fitness leader

ABILENE, Texas – Mayor Norm Archibald will recognize local fitness advocate Chris Kyker for her commitment to physical fitness in Abilene , Texas at the March 24, 2011 City Council meeting. “Mrs. Kyker has played a pivotal role in promoting life-long fitness at the state and local level. She is literally a “mover and shaker” as a health promoter through physical activity,” said Dennis O’Connell, Chairman of the Mayor’s Council on Physical Fitness. “She is an exemplary volunteer and we are blessed to have experienced the benefits of her dedicated service to Abilene .” {{more}}Kyker boasts a range of talents and experience including being the recipient of the Governor’s Lifetime Achievement Award by Governor Rick Perry for her years of advocacy in the Silver-Haired Legislature. She has also volunteered for 32 community agencies, been named Outstanding Alumnus of the Year by Abilene Christian University and is also the founding executive director of the Texas Department of Aging.Citizens serving on the Mayor’s Council on Physical Fitness board are: Dennis O’Connell , Bill Horn , Pug Parris , Joy Hedges, Mary Herron, Deonna Shake, Ron Richert , Kris Dawson and Cheryl Edgar. The Mayor’s Council on Physical Fitness was established in 2007 by Mayor Norm Archibald to promote physical fitness within the City of Abilene .
