Kohl’s is honoring morethan 2,200 youth, ages six to 18, who have made a positive impact on their communitieswith more than $440,000 in scholarships and prizes; top winners receive $10,000each MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. , Feb. 2, 2012 – The Kohl’s DepartmentStores Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program willaward more than $420,000 in scholarships and prizes, ranging from $50 Kohl’sgift cards to $10,000 scholarships, to more than 2,200 young volunteers whohave made a positive impact on their communities. Nominations for kids ages sixto 18 will be accepted February 1 – March 15 at kohlskids.com. Nominations areaccepted February 1 through March 15, and nominators must be 21 years or older.Two nominees from each of the more than 1,100 Kohl’s stores nationwide will wina $50 Kohl’s gift card, and more than 200 will win regional scholarships worth$1,000 toward post-secondary education. Ten national winners will be awarded atotal of $10,000 in scholarships for post-secondary education and Kohl’s willdonate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf. Through theKohl’s Cares Scholarship Program, Kohl’s aims to honor young volunteers who have made a positiveimpact on their communities. Since the program began in 2001, Kohl’s hasrecognized more than 15,000 kids with more than $3 million in scholarships andprizes. In 2012, Kohl’s celebrates its 12th year of rewarding youngvolunteers. In2011, Kohl’s honored national winner Sarah Kladar, 12, who sold approximately5,000 dishtowels and with the nearly $50,000 raised, helpedfinancially-burdened families pay for surgery-related expenses that were notcovered by insurance. Regional winner Jaimus Ready, 8, was recognized forassembling and sending more than 350 care packages to soldiers in Afghanistanfilled with candy, clothing and homemade cards from local school children.
