Husband Wakes Up to Wife’s Sweet Soical Media Surprise From Strangers

Gary Hamilton is one lucky man — “the luckiest guy in the world,” if you ask him. The seasoned television reporter for the New York Yankees woke up for work Saturday to discover his wife, Jennifer, had orchestrated quite the birthday surprise on social media.See also: How a Facebook Poke Between Strangers Led to a Marriage ProposalHe calls her Jenn, and she’s not on Facebook or Instagram or Twitter. Jenn spent the previous night taping fliers emblazoned with Gary’s smile and a loving message asking strangers to send birthday wishes to him on Instagram and Twitter. “She wrote, ‘He’s seriously the best,’ but the real truth is that she is,” Gary, 32, told Mashable on Sunday as birthday tweets and Instagram photos of the thoughtful flier continued to trickle into his notification feeds from people he’s never met and likely never will. Gary’s photo, above, describing the surprise has been favorited nearly 10,000 times. “At times, people feel like in order for a birthday to feel special, they have to spend a gratuitous amount of money to make the day special, but that’s not always the case [here],” he said. “There’s no gift that she could have bought me that would’ve made me feel as special as she did — unless she arranged a one-on-one meeting with President Obama or Kanye West for me. But it’s like Kanye West says in his song ‘Good Life’: ‘Let’s go on a living spree, you know the best things in life are free.'”Gary admitted he felt a mixture of shock and embarrassment from the initial batch of online attention from strangers, but overall, he is flattered by everyone’s affection. The couple, who live together in Harlem and consider themselves southerners , said this act of kindness proves there are “great people” living in New York City despite outsiders often describing residents as rude or mean-spirited.Overwhelmed…but in the most awesome and flatting way. http://t.co/jgbjeduboP #overwhelmed #blessed #bestbirthdayever #birthday #32is32— Gary G. Hamilton July 21, 2014″At first, it was jarring having people I don’t know reach out to me,” he added, “but the fact that it was Jenn’s idea and people that don’t even know me took time out of their busy New York City schedules to help celebrate my day was pretty awesome.”Saw this and thought it was too cute… HAPPY BIRTHDAY @thegaryham !!!
