HSU to Award Education Students for Excellence

The Hardin-Simmons University Irvin School of Education will announce the Student Teacher of the Year and award over $100,000 in scholarships this evening in a ceremony in HSU’s Johnson Building’s multi-purpose room. In a surprise announcement, Carl Wilcox, a senior math education major from Granbury, Texas, will received the coveted student teacher award. Wilcox has been student teaching in math this semester at Cooper High School. Also receiving a surprise award is Sean Carlton, who will graduate from HSU in December. Carlton has been serving as the orchestra director at Madison Middle School in the Abilene Independent School District since last August. He will receive the Education Deans of Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas Educator Award. {{more}} The Irvin School will also award almost $110 thousand in education scholarships tonight and over $11 thousand in other scholarships for a total of $121,375 to be distributed to 69 students. The ceremony begins at 6 p.m., April 8, 2013.
