Fourth annual Mayor’s Hike set for Saturday, June 4

ABILENE, TX. – Mayor Norm Archibald and the Mayor’s Council on Physical Fitness invite you to join them for the 4th Annual Mayor’s Hike beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 4. The hike will take place at Lake Abilene located west of Buffalo Gap. This is a FREE, family friendly event that is open to the public. No pre-registration is needed. The hike is expected to last about 2 ½ hours and leashed dogs are welcome to join.Hikers may choose from three different trails with distances varying from 3.2 miles to 4.8 miles. Here are some recommendations to ensure a fun-filled and safe hike:{{more}}*Bring water and sunscreen along *Wear light colored clothing and comfortable shoes; no flip flops or sandals *Wear a hat *Before starting any wellness program or engaging in physical activity, consult your physician Directions to the hike: Take Buffalo Gap Road/FM 89 south to the city of Buffalo Gap . Proceed through Buffalo Gap following FM 89 as it veers to the right. Cross over the railroad tracks and follow the road 4.9 miles to Lake Abilene . You will pass Perini Ranch Steakhouse, Camp Tonkawa and Abilene State Park . Look for a sign on the right that reads Lake Abilene . Follow the signs to the designated parking area.
