While driving up for happy hour at Southwest mall Sonic drive-in on a Saturday last month, the car hops were not your usual servers on roller skates. As the Faith Deliverance Church youth served customers, they also spread a positive message to other teenagers while raising money by selling cards with coupon specials for a good cause. One activity they raised money for a planned summer trip to Hurricane Harbor. They are also involved with other activities such as “Adopt the Highway” which is a volunteer way to get involved to keep the streets of Abilene clean. The youth have  a stretch of two miles from the Winters Freeway leading to the church on Fourteenth Street where they voluntarily pick up garbage. The group call themselves the Jesus Truth Seekers led by Youth Pastor Ervin Session. On Sunday, June 26th 2011, the group had morning and evening service. The morning service was led and welcome by Mother Herring. Vacation Bible School awards and acknowledgment of June birthdays were given. Senior Pastor Jordan introduced the speakers.{{more}} The congregation in the evening service was led and welcomed by Jonathan and Joshua Session. Worship was led by Kawana Moore. Guest Speaker for the night was Linda Roberts. During the same Sunday morning service, Youth Pastor Ervin Session was the guest preacher. “We serve a mighty God. I want to listen to the words of this song. This is a part of the message this morning.” You can take all this stuff away…jealousy, envy…I met so many people. People I have been around in this cold, cold world that knife with a fork in this world….You can take all this stuff away …world of rejection..world of objection..it’s time to kill all to these friendships of the world…You can take all this stuff away…… “Have you ever looked at how people are so wrapped up in themselves? All those TV shows; American Idol and Smarter than a Fifth Grader are some of these game shows. Game shows let you get money quickly. Let’s see how much praise we can give for 60 sixty seconds.” said Session. “This is greater than real dollars. The world is teaching what you are going to get and get it quick.” Session shared about a story,, about a young man who went to college to earn his medical degree to become a brain surgeon, and met his future wife who earned a law degree. They married, became well off and bought a Mercedes. Unexpectedly, while at the pump, the doctor was filling up the tank to go with his wife to visit her father, when a young man with a gun came around to rob him, pointing the gun at his head. The robber recognized him as being his mother’s doctor and decided to shoot him. According to Sessions, after being shot, the doctor had no more brains to know what to do even though he had a degree, and his wife was at a loss. “I did not know if they had accepted Jesus Christ in their life,” Session said. Pastor Session’s message was based on the scripture Matthew 16:26. His message encourages youth and individuals who need Jesus Christ in their life to think twice about bad choices these days. You cannot have true success without Jesus Christ. It is up to you where you spend eternal life. Don’t try to gain the world to save your soul. I would rather have Jesus. You need Jesus Christ. He died so you could get up.
