Eugenia Pickard to get Historical Marker

Installation of the permanent Texas Historical Marker for Eugenia Pickard will be placed at the Woodson Center for Excellence, AISD campus, Saturday Sept. 6th 2008. {{more}} The building, which at one time was a high school for black students during segregation, houses the Eugenia Pickard Library. Pickard left $5,000 to the city of Abilene in the hopes of providing for a new school for black children. The funds were insufficient for a school and went toward the library instead. Installation Service will be held Saturday September 6, 2008 at 2 O’clock PM at the Woodson Center for Excellence Campus -342 Cockerell Dr. Abilene, Texas 79601. Refreshments will be served. The I-CAN were instrumental in having the historical marker placed at the Library.
