Eagles offense wins Spring Game

The Abilene High Eagles held their Offensive-Defensive Spring Game on Friday, May 23rd, at Shotwell Stadium. The offense, with the help of two long touchdown passes in the third period, outscored the defense 31-14. The game was close before that, considering the defense was missing key players like Chris Williams and Justin Carroll. One of the bright stars {{more}} to look forward to this fall on the Eagle offense is Prentice Ashford. Ashford was on the end of the one of the long touchdown passes thrown by Stephen Warren in the third period. Concerning the play and the catch, as well as the touchdown that followed, Ashford stated, “I told myself to just catch the ball!” When asked about how wide open he was, Ashford responded, “The defense went for the fake screen, which helped me to get more open as a result.”Ashford has the Abilene High tradition already started in his family with father, Aaron, being a former graduate. Ashford’s sister, Terah, graduates this spring from Abilene High as well. That leaves young Briarston, Prentice’s younger sister, to continue the tradition in a few more years! Prentice’s mother, Sheila, moved to Texas when she was in college and didn’t attend Abilene High. Prentice is a senior this upcoming year and will be graduating next spring. We look forward to watching he and the Eagles, as well as other local teams in the upcoming football season
