Dyess Elementary Presented Flag by Congressman Neugebauer

By Joe Starkey

Most mornings of the school year, Principal Martin leads the pledge of Allegiance at Dyess Elementary but this morning he turned those duties over to Congressman Randy Neugebauer. The students filed out of the classrooms and into rows by grade. The school honor guard posted the flag. The Pledge of Allegiance and Pledge to Texas were followed by God Bless America and the National Anthem. Then the students did something that both the Congressman and Superintendent of AISD admitted they could no longer do which was to recite the Preamble to the Constitution. Then Congressman Naugebauer presented the school with a flag that had flown over the Capital Building in Washington, DC. {{more}}He concluded the ceremony by asking all who had a family member serving or that had served to raise their hands. Most of the students and many of the teachers not only raised their hands but waved the small American flags they were carrying. His last comment was “if one member of a family is serving, the whole family serves” and thanked all with their hands up for their service. Most of the children had a a family member who had served or was serving in the Armed Forces.
