Dr. Shannon Cantrell Promoted to Assistant Director of Mental Health

Congratulations are in order for the oldest granddaughter of Abilene resident, Gene Burgess and his wife, the late Marion A. Burgess. Dr. Cantrell was recently promoted to Assistant Director of the Mental Health Department for the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Dr. Shannon Cantrell is a 36-year-old mental health professional with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Fort Valley State University, a Master of Arts Degree in Professional Counseling from Argosy University and an Educational Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Argosy University. She is a licensed professional counselor with experience in the correctional, hospital and community-based settings. She also has experience in the higher education arena, teaching and supervising master’s level counseling students.
