I often think about the future of our youth. They certainly are making the news. The latest antic is the act of “The Knock out Game.” But it’s not a game. It is an assault on another human being. Most of these acts are perpetrated by a young person against an older person. It is a cowardly act. There has been a death, recently, caused by this vicious uncaring random act.The characteristics of this act are that they are random, sudden, thoughtless and without regard for the victim’s life. Some of our young people are losing respect for their elders. They are no longer honoring their elders as the Bible teaches. When they children made fun of Elisha in the Bible, God allowed them to be eaten by 2 bears as their punishment for showing disrespect to an elderly man.{{more}}What are you doing personally to help young people mature and become positive, productive citizens in Abilene and the country? It begins with them learning to respect themselves and others. When individuals don’t respect themselves they have a tendency to disrespect and hurt others. Hurt people hurt people. It’s up to adults to teach children to love and respect themselves and each other. When the self respect is learned, it is displayed in their interactions with others. There are discussions taking place that indicate the possibility of minors being charged was adults in these cases of minors committing these “sucker punches” to the elderly. These charges could result in minors doing adult time for attacking the elderly. This is an effort to make the consequences fit the crime. When a crime is committed, there are no “do-overs.”It is up to adults who understand actions and consequences to teach and model proper actions and behaviors. Until young people understand that, bad behavior will beget bad consequences for all involved. Please join us with Da’Cipher 360° as we invest in the future of the Abilene community and the young people who live here. No city or town is better than the people who live in it. “It takes a village…”If you are interested in and want to take part in making Abilene the best it can be by investing your time, your talents or your finances, contact Da’Cipher 360°, P.O.
