I really, really do want to go to the Bonneville Salt Flats this August. Mr. Bob Bauman is the mechanic that keeps our family cars running but he also plans to be the owner/driver of the World’s Fastest Stock-Body Cam by the middle of August 2011. Last summer he took the car he and Jimmy Combs built to Bonneville and after several qualifying runs for levels of licenses – he drove the car 216.337 miles per hour on a damp and very slick surface at ONLY half throttle. He told me the car was having trouble staying straight on the slick surface so he “was driving with one hand on the steering wheel and one hand on the stopping parachute handle.”{{more}} This year he expects to go between 300 and 320 mph and thoroughly break the current record of just over 256 mph. Ron Gray, Chrystle Johnson, Christy and Cathern Steffy are shown admiring the car. Cathern said it was her favorite car of the show and she wanted one when she had her own car.The show was wonderful as it usually is. One great thing about this annual show is that the proceeds go to help the Abilene area organizations that help here. The cars and motorcycles filled the lobby and both halls of the Civic Center and the space in front of the fountain. Most of the car clubs and motorcycle clubs in theCar show from the balcony.
