C. E. “Doc” Cornutt Named New Board Chairman

By Lynne Bruton - director of public relations Abilene Christian University

C.E. “Doc” Cornutt of Dallas was selected Saturday as the new chair of the Abilene Christian University Board of Trustees by fellow board members, said ACU president Dr. Royce Money. Cornutt will {{more}} replace Don W. Crisp of Dallas, who has served three five-year terms as chair. The transition will officially occur after the February board meetings. “Doc has been actively involved with ACU for nearly two decades, and we have been blessed by his leadership,” said Money. “I know the transition will be smooth for the board and for the university. Don has done a tremendous job of leading our board since 1992, and I appreciate his service tremendously.” Cornutt, president of Argent Property Co., has served on the board since 1989. He served with Crisp as co-chair of ACU’s successful “To Lead and To Serve” fund-raising campaign, which raised $114 million for the university. He serves as chair of the board’s Development Committee, and he recently received a Distinguished Alumni Citation from ACU. He graduated magna cum laude from ACU in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and marketing, and he had numerous college honors. His wife, Linda, graduated from ACU in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Education in elementary education. Cornutt is an elder at Skillman Avenue Church of Christ in Dallas. He and his wife have three children: Sara, Christopher and Shelly.
