Boys and Girls Club Holds Annual Banquet

Mark Young Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Abilene welcomed a large crowd to the B & G Steak & Stake Banquet. Several individuals {{more}} spoke about the effect the Boys & Girls Club has had on their lives. Addy Perez said that her son Matt started attending the Fannin B & G Club in August 2005. She said that his grades have improved. He is getting 100’s in spelling and earns bonus points on many occasions. She also said that he is coming out of his shyness. Trey Denman said he started attending B & G Club at age six. He likes to play pool, fooshe ball. He enjoys the fun and said the staff is understanding. Mary John was scheduled to speak about the impact of the Boys & Girls Club in her son’s life. She could only say my son and then she was overcome with emotion. Perhaps that was the greatest testimony of the night. Those tears of joy really had a positive effect on members of the audience.About twenty of the boys and girls auctioned off pictures they had painted to raise a portion of their tuition.The following individuals received “Youth of the Year” awards: Kaitlyn Dick, Beltway, Ivette Ortiz, Fannin, Shelby Jaramillo, Highland, JaVaris Jones, Nelson and Courtney Lockridge, Teen.
