Animal Services to re-launch volunteer program

ABILENE, Texas – This month, Animal Services is re-launching the volunteer program that will enhance the services available to the animal population of our community. The program will feature several volunteer positions and opportunities for individuals and groups. The main focus will be on volunteers that can help with off-site adoptions and special projects; then on-site shelter help with evaluation of animals and adoptions. Volunteer opportunities will be offered in the areas of off-site adoption services, animal shelter and adoption center assistance and special projects like “National Spay Day” and “Movie with Your Mutt” events. They include dog walking, cat enrichment, pet grooming, and community education. Volunteers will also help set up off site adoptions at various locations around Abilene, assist with lost and found animals, take photographs and videos, and more. {{more}} The program will take the volunteer through an orientation, online training, and then one on one training in job specific areas. Prospective volunteers are encouraged to go to the City of Abilene Shelter and Adoption Center at 925 S. 25th to complete an application or email: Volunteer.animalservices@abilenetx.com.
