Memories in The Making®, an art program for people with dementia   Abilene,TX –– The Alzheimer’s Association –North Central Texas Chapter will offer a special presentation and workshop onMemories in the Making®, an art program for people with memoryloss. The workshop will be held from1:30 to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, at the Alzheimer’s Association office,301 S. Pioneer, Ste. 105, Abilene. Everyone is welcome; there is no charge toattend. A box of watercolorpaints, a little inspiration, and guidance from a caring person is all it takesfor someone with dementia to create a beautiful work of art. Memories in the Making® is a method ofinspiring, helping and encouraging people to express themselves creatively,regardless of the type or severity of their memory loss. The paintings created by participants in theprogram have been exhibited across North Central Texas. {{more}} Lisa Buck, Memories in the Making Coordinator forthe Alzheimer’s Association, shares the philosophy, inspiration and method ofpainting with people with dementia. Thepresentation is richly illustrated with paintings and stories by people withdementia and prepares people to facilitate MIM sessions on their own. Artists, volunteers, staff at area memorycare facilities, and the simply curious are invited to find out why more than20 chapters of the Alzheimer’s Association nationwide offer Memories in theMaking® “This workshop is a way of introducing theprogram to a larger Abileneaudience,” says Ms. Buck. “Facilitatingthe painting sessions is an especially rewarding experience forvolunteers. It only takes an hour aweek, but the impact on the lives of people who have lost their hobbies andprofessions to dementia is tremendous.” Continuing educationcredit is available for activity professionals and social workers.
