ACU named among top 15% of universities in the nation

By Sara Morris ACU Public Relations Coordinator

Abilene Christian University is one of “America’s Best Colleges” as determined by Forbes Magazine in a rankings list published last week.Forbes joined with the Center for College Affordability and Productivity to rank 600 undergraduate institutions based on “the quality of the education they provide, the experience of the students and how much they achieve.”Out of more than 4,000 college campuses in the U.S., the report listed 600 – approximately the top 15 percent. Within the rankings, ACU was listed at No. 407, ahead of several other Texas schools including TCU and Baylor University. ACU and Pepperdine University were the only two schools on the list affiliated with the Church of Christ. The staff at CCAP based 25 percent of the rankings on student evaluations of courses and instructors, 25 percent on post-graduate success, and 20 percent on the estimated average student debt after four years. One-sixth of the rankings are based on four-year college graduation rates, and the last component is based on the number of students or faculty who have won nationally competitive awards. This is the second year of Forbes’ college rankings. In 2008, ACU ranked No. 444.“It’s gratifying to be recognized by a respected magazine, as well as the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, among other top schools in the nation,” said Dr. Royce Money, ACU president. “I also think the student-centered focus in these rankings provides a unique perspective on the educational experience ACU provides.”
