ABILENE YMCA ANNOUNCES HIRING OF NEW PRESIDENT/CEO

The board of directors of the YMCA of Abilene is pleased to announce the hiring of Mark Langan as its new President/CEO. “Mark brings a unique background which includes extensive YMCA experience in the Chicago metropolitan area, following a highly successful business and professional career. We are very pleased to have Mark join us,” said David Buhrmann, chairman of the YMCA of Abilene board of directors. Mr. Langan began work on Monday, June 17, and will be responsible for the operation of the YMCA’s Redbud and State Street Family Centers. {{more}} According to Mr. Langan, “The Abilene YMCA is a wonderful part of the community and is well positioned for the future. I am very impressed with the members of the board, their thoughtful approach and their strong desire to serve the people of Abilene. I expect we will have many new opportunities as we move forward. The best is yet to come. “ Chartered in 1947, the YMCA of Abilene provides programs and facilities to promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, serving over 7500 children, youth and adults. According to Kristina Jones, board member and chair of the CEO search committee, “We had the good fortune of interviewing several outstanding candidates for the position. Mark has so many strengths that we felt he would be the best leader for our YMCA as we build upon our recent successes.” Said Mr. Langan, “My wife, Eileen, and I are very excited about coming to Abilene. We were very pleased to meet so many nice people in our visit to west Texas. We are looking forward to life in Abilene.” The mission of the YMCA of Abilene is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Our programs focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Last year the YMCA of Abilene served more than 9, 900 individuals in the Abilene area community via programs focused on youth development through nurturing children and teens, healthy living through improving the Big Country’s well-being, and social responsibility through the giving back and supporting our neighbors.
