Abilene Resident to be one of 12 finalist on HGTV’s Design Star!

Premiering on Tuesday, May 29, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, David Bromstad, thenetwork’s charismatic and original winner of the popular reality competition,is back for a second season as mentor—this time also assuming the host role.Each week, HGTV designers Genevieve Gorder and Vern Yip are joined by specialguest judges including Kardashian mom Kris Jenner; entrepreneur and TVpersonality Daisy Fuentes; CSI: Crime Scene Investigation star and Emmyaward-winning actress Marg Helgenberger; Entertainment Tonight host MarkSteines; and multi-platinum recording artist and home remodeling expert, DIYNetwork’s Vanilla Ice. The series also features appearances by other HGTVhosts, including Sabrina Soto , John Colaneri and AnthonyCarrino , and reigning HGTV Design Star, Meg Caswell . {{more}} Originallyfrom Portland, Ore., Bex moved to Abilene, Texas to pursue her education at Abilene Christian University. After graduating with aB.S. in industrial technology, she opened her own retail home furnishings storewhere she discovered her passion for interiors. As a self-taught designer, Bexhas undertaken a variety of design projects for commercial and residentialclients, as well as corporate events. To Bex, design is a visual story thattakes viewers on a journey. She describes her favorite design style as “arteco,” which is an artistic, eco-friendly design using industrial materials,rich warm tones and clean lines. She used this look for one of her favoriteprojects—a restaurant design in San Francisco where she used 100 percentrecycled materials.
