Abilene police officer killed in traffic accident while on duty

ABILENE, Texas – Abilene Police Motorcycle Officer Rodney Holder, age 50, died today, Thursday, April 29, 2010 from injuries sustained after colliding with another vehicle. Shortly before noon, Officer Holder was attempting to make a traffic stop on his motorcycle northbound on Sayles Boulevard with his emergency lights activated when a southbound vehicle attempted a left turn onto S. 13th Street into Holder’s path. The investigation into the accident is on-going. A Cooper High School graduate, Holder joined the Abilene Police Department as a member of Academy Class # 29 in 1982. During his career, Holder served as a Patrol Officer, SWAT Team member, Detective and since 2005 as a member of the Traffic Division Motorcycle Unit.Holder is survived by his wife, 26-year old daughter, and 13-year old son.
