Some have plans to attend college after graduation, while others will continue on with their jobs and seek careers from their transition. Many doors will be open for them, and their future will depend on their choices. Like Ruiz, many students will decide to take it easy until they decide what the future will hold for them. There are many options and programs that are available for high school students like the Upward Bound program that recruits students into colleges like Abilene Christian University. Junior colleges are available for those that want to begin by taking their basic college courses and then transfer credits into a four year college. Other students have planned on joining the military to make a difference for their country. Whatever the outcome maybe, there is a brighter future with more goals ahead. Looking back at all the years since first grade their will be memories for these graduates, and even those moments when challenges were present trying to make the grade through perseverance. During the speeches given by the student council, one student gave credit to God for her accomplishment. It makes a difference when credit is given to all the right parties. Ruiz celebrated with his family and friends at a graduation party that was thrown for him at Freedom Fellowship where he attends church on Wednesdays. He also knows that “the man upstairs” had a hand in his achievement. One of his gifts he carries to church with him is a brown leather cover for his bible. He has learned and highlighted many scriptures during his new found walk with the Lord, and from his bible studies. Because of his relationship with God, his future will more than likely be guided spiritually through his faith as he encourages other while sharing the scriptures he has learned applying the word to life situations. A positive outlook in his life waits for him while he continues to seek God for direction in his life.
