A Tribute to Our Dad Gene Burgess

We are proud to call Gene Burgess our daddy and we’re thankful that God blessed us with a father who exemplifies the true meaning of a man. The union between him and Marion created: D’Arcy , Desiree’ , Darryl , D’Edra , and Dennis . Dad was a father of four by the time he was 23 years old. In order to support his family, he joined the Air Force after his first child was born. He served in the Vietnam War, traveled the world with his family, and retired after 20 years of service. We like to say he’s bordering on genius. If there’s a news program on, you can believe that Dad is watching it and analyzing every word. He taught us never to take anything at face value, speak correctly, and never be afraid to speak our minds. He is a graduate of McMurry University. An avid golfer, Dad has mentored and instructed players. He plays almost daily and has won many tournaments. His sons and nephews have spent their lives trying to beat him. He lost his beautiful bride of 54 years to cancer in 2013. The way he cared for Mom the last two years of her life, with love and devotion, proved the kind of man he is. With Mom gone, we needed him more than ever, and he became the glue to hold us together, the shoulder to lean on, and the ear to hear our concerns, successes, and plain, old chatter. We couldn’t have been blessed with a better father! We love you Dad!
