If you ever met J.C. McCurdy, one of the first things you probably noticed was that he walked tall and erect. That was not only a physical characteristic but, more importantly, it was the way he walked in his Christian life. When I met J.C. McCurdy, he was “Brother McCurdy” to me. My family and I attended the Hillcrest Church of Christ in the early eighties. He was one of the Elders at the church. Jim York, a nephew in paying tribute to McCurdy, said that Brother McCurdy had served about 50 years as an elder in the churches of Christ.{{more}}In addition to local work, McCurdy supported missionary workers in Africa. If fact, he made 10 trips to Africa in support of spreading the good news of Christ around the world.McCurdy was also a successful business man. He owned a CPA firm and many people trusted him to take care of their taxes and other financial matters. He was a great help to me as I was starting my financial services career.Last but not least, he was a committed husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was married to his college sweetheart, Arylene, for almost 72 years. On Monday, October 24th, his service was held at Hillcrest Church of Christ. The Hillcrest Chorus sang the following songs: I’m in the Gloryland Way, Amazing Grace, No Tears in Heaven, Nearer to the Heart of God, Father a Long and I’ll Fly Away.Brother McCurdy was 94.
