3rd Annual Gospel Fest

The Abilene Black Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 3rd Annual Gospel Fest on Saturday, April 15th. It will feature gospel recording artist Elvetta Michelle Brooks.Elvetta Michelle Brooks Thompson was born into a musical family. Her late mother Barbara Gayle Brooks form a Soul/Funk group with her sisters called the “Wallace Sisters”. Michelle began singing an early age in the choir at her grandfather’s church and later in a trio with her mother and aunt. Piano lessons began at age 8. She was leading songs at age 9. When she was 10 she won her first talent competition, singing Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. By 14 she was serving as Minister of Music of at her grandfather’s church Miracle Temple COGIC and held that position until age,22. {{more}}During her college years, Michelle founded the Five Colleges Gospel Choir and formed the colleges own series of Gospel Explosion concerts. In 2006. She earned a B.A. in music with a concentration in Vocal Performance and Piano. Although she was accepted into Boston’s Berkley College of Music she declined in order to independently pursue her professional music career. Over the years, she has sang backup for various recording artists & opened shows for contemporary Christian artists including James Fortune & FIYA, Doobie Powell, Bebo Norman, and Eric Taylor. She has performed the National Anthem at collegiate and professional sporting events including Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox and Gillette Stadium for the New England Patriots. She has won several karaoke and talent competitions and has been featured on ABC’s Karaoke Battle USA, Debra Crosby’s Talent Quest, NCB’s The Voice, and TBN’s Praise the Lord as a gospel recording artist and guest psalmist. Michelle’s partner is marriage and ministry is David Thompson. They have twin daughters.
